80 Arrested in the Riot of St. Louis

More than about eighty people were arrested on Sunday night by the police as a result of the riots in St. Louis, MO over the acquittal of a white policeman who had shot a black man, it turned extremely violent for a continuous third night in succession. During the riot, police used pepper spray and arrested the demonstrators who had not paid attention to the orders to disperse following a larger and peaceful protest. After nightfall, a small group remained which resulted in turning out to be disorder, a similar pattern that was followed on Friday and Saturday. According to the police and witnesses, protesters smashed windows and attempted to block a highway that interconnected two states.

The police officers were able to control some of the protestors who defied the orders from the police and also used pepper spray before making the decision of mass arrests. Mayor Lyda Krewson mentioned at a conference that was held late at night that a large number of the protestors are non violent in nature and held a group of agitators responsible for the overall chaos. Lawrence O'Toole, the acting police commissioner clearly mentioned that the situation is under control. He also said that this is our city and we are going to protect it by every means possible. The main reason behind the protest on Friday was the acquittal of former police officer, Jason Stockley of first degree murder that took place in the year 2011 the shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith. This violence evoked the memories of the riots following the 2014 shooting of a black teenager by a white police officer near Ferguson in Missouri.

Police have reported of confiscating weapons that include handguns and recovered plastic spray bottles that contained a chemical which is not known that had hit police officers. The police have already mentioned in the tweets that the protest that took place at St. Louis is no longer a peaceful one instead it has taken a violent leap. The protesters broke large ceramic flowerpots and at the same time also threw chunks of ceramics at storefront windows. The gathering at night on Sunday was the largest among the three nights and there were around more than 1000 protestors. In turn, the police deployed their largest show of force as the police officers, in riot gear marched through the streets.
