China denies selling oil illicitly to North Korea

On Friday, China completely denied the fact of selling oil and other oil products to North Korea unlawfully. This happened after the president of the United States Donald Trump said that he was not at all happy about China allowing oil to reach the isolated nation of North Korea. Donald Trump stated on Twitter that on the previous day China has been caught allowing oil to be transported in North Korea. He also mentioned that this would prevent a friendly solution to the crisis over the missile and nuclear programs of North Korea which it conducts by disobeying the heavy sanctions of the Security Council of the United Nations.

In another interview with The New York Times, Donald Trump said that he had been soft on China because he believes that the only other thing which is more important than trade is nothing but war. Chosun Ilbo which is a newspaper of South Korea had stated this week that the sources of government of South Korea are saying that US spy satellites had detected the Chinese ships transporting oil to the vessels of North Korea more than about thirty times since the month of October.

Officials of the United States have not confirmed the details of these reports as of yet. On the other hand, Hua Chunying who is a spokeswoman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry told reporters that she had noted all recent reports from the media including suggestions that a Chinese vessel was suspected of transporting oil to a North Korean vessel on the 19th of October. She later said that a detailed investigation from the Chinese side has also been done which revealed that the ship in question has not docked at a port of China since the month of August.

Also, there is no record of the ship either entering or leaving a port in China. Hua also mentioned that she was not aware if the ship in question had docked at any other port in some other countries but relevant reports from the media did not match with the facts. She said that China has always obeyed the Security Council of the United Nations and implemented the resolutions pertaining to the nation of North Korea completely and fulfils all its international obligations. Hua even said that China never allows any of the companies in China and its citizens to violate the resolutions of the Security Council.
