Hamas calls for Palestinian uprising in response to Trump's Jerusalem plan

On Thursday, the Islamist group Hamas has urged the Palestinians for abandoning the peace efforts and launch a new uprising against Israel in response to the President of the United States recognition of Jerusalem as its capital. The military of Israel said that it was reinforcing the troops in the occupied West Bank, deploying a number of new army battalions and putting a standby on their other forces on describing the measures as part of its readiness for possible developments.

The Medics said that at least 31 people were wounded by gunfire of the army of Israel when Palestinian protests erupted in the West Bank and Gaza Strip on Thursday. They said that about 11 people were hit by live bullets and about 20 people by rubber bullets. One of the people among the hit ones was in a critical condition. Some of the protesters threw rocks at soldiers and others said 'Death to America! Death to the fool Trump!' On Wednesday, Donald Trump reversed decades of policy of the United States by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, imperiling Middle East peace efforts and upsetting the Arab world and Western allies alike.

The status of Jerusalem is the home to sites that are holy to the Muslim, Jewish and Christian religions which is actually one of the biggest obstacles to reaching a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh mentioned in a speech in Gaza that we should call for and we should work on launching a Palestinian uprising in the face of the Zionist enemy. He also urged the Palestinians, Muslims, and Arabs to hold rallies against the decision taken by the United States on Friday referring to it as a day of rage. Naser Al - Qidwa who is an aide to Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the senior official in his Fatah party, is urging the Palestinians to go for protests but at the same time, he mentioned that these protests should be peaceful.

The Intelligence Minister Israel Katz said that in his estimate Abu Mazen will not wreck matters which would not be helpful to him. This is what he said when he was asked on Israel Radio whether there might be another Palestinian uprising. Israel considers Jerusalem to be its eternal and indivisible capital. On the other hand, the Palestinians want the capital of an independent state of theirs to be in the eastern sector of the city which Israel captured in the year 1967 in the Middle East war and annexed in a move never recognized internationally.
