Illegal immigration on border back at Obama levels

Illegal immigration across the south-western border surged back up to the levels which were during the period of the former president of the United States, Barack Obama. This is according to the latest data that was released on Friday which suggested that the gains of the current president of the United States, Donald Trump had made in his early tenure have worn off. The total number of arrests up until now, along the south-western border have climbed back up to the levels that prevailed during the time of Barack Obama which is referred to as the levels of the Obama era in the first two months of the new fiscal year.

Just about 40,000 illegal immigrants were nabbed who were attempting to sneak in at the border in the month of November. They were either arrested at the border and were trying to cross illegally or were simply turned away from the ports of entry in the month of November. This was about a 12 percent increase as compared to data in the month of October. This was actually more than twice the monthly numbers from March and April when Donald Trump touted his early accomplishments in this particular field. These particular details are as per the data from the Customs and Border Protection that was released on Friday.

The combined total number of arrests and the inadmissible migrants in the month of November was comparatively lower than the same month of the previous two fiscal years but exceeded the totals in the fiscal years of 2014 and 2015. What is more worrisome for officials is the fact that the rise in the number of families who were living together. This has increased to about 45 percent from the previous month. The number of unaccompanied minors who were travelling without their parents increased to about 26 percent in the last month.

The United States Customs and Border Protection are pretty concerned with this particular matter and referred to this rise as an uptick. The number of people apprehended in the month of November was 3,9006 which is actually still less as compared to the last two years but is definitely more than the years 2012, 2013 and 2014. This particular figure is actually signaling a return back to the levels of illegal immigration on the border that existed during the rule of the former president of the United States, Barack Obama.
