On Tuesday, House speaker Paul Ryan spoke about cleansing the Federal Bureau of Investigation as he openly backed the release of a controversial memo that appears to be true about the alleged details regarding surveillance abuses by the government of the United States. Ryan clearly stated that everything that is true should come out and anything false should be thrown out at the same time, cleaning the organization is what the primary focus should be on. Ryan also added that he thinks that all of the stuff should come to light which is actually the best medicine in this case for making everything clear. A clear transparency and accountability is of immense importance for the sake of the reputation of the institutions of the country.
The most striking remarks came at a breakfast with anchors and reporters before the address of the State of the Union address by US president Donald Trump, much of which was off the record. Ryan spoke on-record for the purpose of addressing the controversy over the House Intelligence Committee for voting late Monday for making public the surveillance memo. The main point that Paul Ryan wanted to make it clear that everything should be properly disclosed and this is correct way to go. He mentioned that all of the problems at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice should be properly cleaned and covering or hiding in this case would be worse. On Monday, the committee vote was met with solid objections from the Democrats.
Adam Schiff who is from California and the top Democrat on the committee referred to this day as a sad one and he said that according to him this was one of the saddest days in the history of this committee. He added that the motion is passed on a party line basis. The President of the United States, Donald Trump has five days now for deciding whether he has any objections or not before the memo can be publicly released. When asked about the House Intelligence Democrats complaining about their GOP counterparts, Paul Ryan clearly noted that the Democrats sprung their memo the previous night as a reference to the version of the Democrats which has not been released at this stage. The memo that was authored by the Republicans has not yet been released as well but it is expected that it will be made public after the White House gets a chance to review it.
