On Monday, the defense minister of South Korea said that the country was thinking of bringing back the nuclear weapons from the United States of America. This decision was taken for guarding the country against the north. But the analysts warn that this particular decision has immense possibilities of raising the risk of an accidental conflict. After North Korea conducted a nuclear test on Sunday, tensions on the peninsula were extremely high. The defense ministry said that the country was getting prepared to launch another missile into the Pacific Ocean.
In recent times, the hostile threats from North Korea are rapidly increasing and this has resulted in the policy makers in the United States & South Korea wondering how to exactly deal or respond to these types of situations. The defense minister of South Korea, Mr. Song Young Moo asked the defense minister of the United States, Mr. Jim Mattis to send nuclear submarines, aircraft carriers and B – 52 bombers to be sent to South Korea on a regular basis. This discussion happened at the Pentagon last week.
Song Young Moo in the latest parliamentary hearing about North Korea's recent nuclear test stated that he has asked the defense minister of the United States to send strategic assets to the Peninsula of Korea on a regular basis. This has brought forward a positive reaction among legislators and the media in the country. They are actually strongly supporting this decision taken by the defense minister of South Korea and are pushing that this redeployment of nuclear weapons from the United States should happen as early as possible. A poll that was conducted in August found 68 percent of the respondents strongly support this fact of bringing back tactical weapons from the United States back to South Korea.
The huge nuclear test that was conducted by North Korea on Monday was just more than enough to destroy a large city and Song Young Moo threw his idea behind this test. The reason is that there are a few conservatives in South Korea who do not support this idea of bringing back the tactical weapons. The main opposition came from the Liberty Korea Party which is a conservative one and not the progressive. This is why Song Young Moo presented his idea of keeping the huge nuclear test done by North Korea to gain some support from the conservatives as well.
