Taiwan president warns China against military aggression

On Friday, the president of Taiwan Tsai Ing – Wen said that the military ambitions of the Chinese nation are becoming more and more apparent. This has resulted in the rise of tension between Taiwan and the mainland which should not be resolved through military force. The president of Taiwan has faced a rising enmity from China since she had won in the election in the previous year which is obvious from the fact that China is stepping up with military drills around Taiwan. China suspects the president of Taiwan Tsai of being from the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party and wants to push for the self-ruled formal independence of the island, a red line for Beijing which considers Taiwan to be a wayward province and sacred Chinese territory.

The military activities of China do not only impact the situation in the Taiwan Strait, but also in the whole of East Asia. Tsai had told reporters that this problem is not being faced by Taiwan alone. The president of Taiwan Tsai stated during a news conference on a stage that was flanked by two models of fighter jets that all of the countries in this region who are in demand of peace and stability have a general agreement and China cannot ignore this by any chance that the cross strait issues cannot be resolved absolutely through military force but through peaceful means.

Tsai, however clearly mentioned that her island would not be passive in facing a more aggressive nature of China. She said that over the past year the morale of her military is slowly and steadily improving. At the same time, the support for her military is also increasing on a constant basis and she stated that is the most gratifying thing since she had become the president of Taiwan. She announced that the annual defense budget of the country would be growing at a steady pace within a range that is reasonable.

This week, the defense ministry of Taiwan had issued a warning in a white paper that the military threat of China was increasing by the day which is evident from the fact that the Chinese air force is carrying out 16 rounds of exercises close to Taiwan over the past year or so on a regular basis. In return, China has said that these drills are routine and it would be better if Taiwan gets acquainted with them as early as possible.
