Texas gunman attacked church

Sutherland Springs is one of the tiny towns in Texas with just two gas stations, the population of just a few hundred people, and one post office. However, it is this small town that became well-known worldwide on Sunday due to the regrettable event that took place there. The town witnessed one of the worst ever mass shootings in modern Texas history. The town is dominated by a Christian community and its population and area are too small to make it viable to have a police force of their own.

The primary social activity that Sutherland Springs experiences revolves around its two churches. One of these churches is the First Baptist Church where the lone gunmen entered with an assault rifle and opened fire on people, killing at least 26 parishioners on the spot. The Pastor of River Oaks Church, Paul Buford, said in an interview with the Press that he couldn't believe that something like this could ever happen in such a small and inconsequential town. Even though the authorities have not made an official announcement, per sources in law enforcement agencies, the gunman who attacked the church was a 26-year-old white man named Devin Patrick Kelley.

After the shooting, the gunman fled the crime scene in his car and was found dead in his car near bordering Guadalupe County, where his car was found crashed. In the car, law enforcement officials found a massive stack of arms and weapons. As per Buford, it is natural for everyone living in the community to be affected by such an incident. The youngest victim of the mass shooting was a five year old.

The fact that this event occurred just about a month after the most extensive mass shooting in modern U.S. history that took place in Las Vegas where 58 people were killed and had shaken the nation. These incidents have highlighted how easy it is for these people to get arms, ammunition, and weapons of choice to carry out such acts. A candlelight vigil was organized by the people in the community on Sunday evening to mourn the death of the deceased and to show support to the families who lost their loved ones in the incident.
